It is our great honor and pleasure to welcome all participants to the 17th Korea-Japan Joint Symposium on Building Materials and Construction, held at Kongju National University in Cheonan, Korea.

The Korea-Japan Joint Symposium originated in 1994 from laboratory-level academic exchanges between Chungnam National University and Hokkaido University in Japan. Over the past three decades, it has grown into a leading platform for academic exchange in the field of building materials and construction, bringing together universities, research institutes, and industries from both countries to promote technological cooperation and industrial development.

In recent years, growing attention to decarbonization strategies and the realization of a circular economy—particularly in the cement and concrete industries—has highlighted the importance of closer collaboration between academia and industry. Reflecting this trend, the 17th symposium has been designed as a forum for in-depth discussions on technological solutions and future strategies involving both sectors.

Hosting this year's symposium at Kongju National University, an institution committed to academic excellence and international cooperation, adds special significance to the event. We hope that the setting of Cheonan and the university's supportive academic environment will foster productive discussions and meaningful exchanges.

We sincerely thank all organizing committee members, partner institutions, and contributors for their dedication and support. We wish all participants a rewarding symposium and a pleasant stay in Cheonan.
